People are often curious about what we do at ApisTech. When I tell them we develop custom software for clients, they usually ask – well, what does a software engineer actually do? To give some insight, I talked to my colleague Stefan recently about his day-to-day work.
And here is what he says:
‘I’m so glad you stopped by to learn a little bit about my work as a software engineer. In a nutshell, I get to help design and build all kinds of apps, programs and systems that power our digital world.
It’s always changing – new ideas, technologies, challenges pop up every day to keep things exciting. I really enjoy that dynamism and opportunity for creativity. Each project starts a bit like an artist facing a blank canvas, beginning to dream up something useful and innovative that hopefully makes people’s lives better in some small way.
Of course, it’s rarely a solo effort. I get to collaborate with sharp, passionate teammates to bounce ideas around and incorporate diverse perspectives. That collaboration is such a vital part of arriving at great solutions. And we always aim to deeply understand the end-users too – how can we build something that resonates and delights?
There’s an element of art and science to the work. The science side is using technical knowledge and precision coding to construct something that’s stable and secure. But making it elegant, accessible and user-friendly draws on creativity and design skill. I love living at that intersection of arts and science to craft the best experience I can.
Anyway, those are the basics of my life as a software engineer! Let me know if you have any other questions.’
